Chocolate Cream Pie Question?

I just made a choc. cream pie for the first time- should I put saran wrap on the top so I don't get the thick top layer that cook and serve pudding makes when it sets or is that not neccessary. I never made one and I just know how pudding gets that film on top - and not sure if choc cream pies at restaurants had that or not - since it was covered in whipped cream. I did cheat and use cook and serve pudding pie filling and added choc chips.Chocolate Cream Pie Question?
Yes, you will need to put a cover on the pie or you'll get that top film.Chocolate Cream Pie Question?
You can put the saran wrap on it, that will prevent it from having that skin. Just make sure you kind of press it gently on to get the air pockets out. Spray it with cooking oil first, this will prevent the pie from sticking to the wrap when you pull it off.
Put wax paper over the top to prevent the skim - it has to touch the surface or it won't do any good.

Next time, use the cook and serve pudding but let cool to room temperature and then whip up some Dream Whip or get a container of cool whip and beat it into the cooled pudding. Place it in your pie shell at that point. It will double the volume of the chocolate filling in your pie shell.

Enjoy!
Marainge on top? i would keep covered with saran just not snug!
Actually in a pie It would not be necessary. It will taste fine.
I agree it needs a cover, but I'd never use saran wrap - it's too clingy.

Make a ';tent'; out of aluminum foil leaving a fair amount of room.
