What are you wanting to ice in particular? Both are good, just depends on which you prefer to make.

Cream Cheese Frosting (with butter)

1 pkg. (8 oz.) Cream Cheese, softened

1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter or margarine, softened

1 tsp. vanilla

1 pkg. (16 oz.) powdered sugar (about 4 cups), sifted

Make It

Beat cream cheese, butter and vanilla in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until well blended.

Add sugar gradually, beating until well blended after each addition.

Whipped Cream Cheese Frosting (without butter)

* 12 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature

* 1/2 cup powdered sugar

* 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Combine all ingredients in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, and beat at low speed until sugar is incorporated.

Increase speed to medium high and beat until frosting is light and whipped, about 3 to 4 minutes. Use to top cookies, cupcakes, or cakes.
Without, it has more cream cheese flavor. I never have had a problem with spreading it.

I have even put more cream cheese in it than the recipe called for, it is a little more spreadable, and for a 13x9 cake, it worked fine.
I make it without butter....never thought to use butter, but maybe I'll try it, thanks for the suggestion. I say it's all about personal preference. Maybe you might want to try them both in different recipes for the general taste and then decide.
If you're frosting cupcakes, I'd go for the recipe without the butter.

It's a tighter mixture and will hold it's shape if you choose to pipe decorations on with it.
Without. Save the butter for butter cream frosting.
With out butter. You don't want a buttery flavor on top of cup cakes. Just a creamy rich flavor.
without butter.... use powdered suger
