Can I use both? Is that necessary? What's the difference between baby powder and diaper cream? They're both to treat diaper rash, right?
Baby powder absorbs moisture on or near the skin helping to keep it dry. Cream block moisture(urine, excessive humidity on a hot day) from getting on the skin.
I used powder most of the time especially for a heat rash to help dry it up. I used the cream for a diaper rash to keep the skin protected from urine %26amp; feces. If the rash was really bad I would use both, putting the cream on first(after washing the skin with water) and then the powder.
Any powder CAN be dangerous if the baby inhales too much. If concerned, 1st put powder in your hand, away from the baby, then put directly on his/her bottom. What's the difference between baby powder and diaper cream? They're both to treat diaper rash, right?
If you use the actual powder be careful as it may be harmful if your baby inhales any of it- we have the Huggies Liquid Powder which is cool because it turns into the powder after applied. We don't use powder on her bottom, just diaper cream, we used powder in her double chin! she would drool and it would get irritated.
Both block moisture from the affected area. Diaper cream is cooling and soothing while powder is dry but still soft. It's not necessary to use both, but if the rash is bad, I'd stay away from the powder.
If you change baby regualarly, you shouldnt need any of these but its good to keep diaper rash cream close by so you can put some on at the first signs of a rash. As for powder, it is just to keep an area dry but wont make a bit of difference on a babies bottom which is gonna get wet. Also, most baby powder is scented, best not to use scented things on a baby, anyway, it can take away their own wonderful individual scent. If you need to keep areas dry such as the folds of skin around the neck, legs and underarms, corn starch is a well tested and non scented alternative to baby powder - it even says this on the box.
I think powder is more to absorb and creme is to block moisture. For diaper rash, I prefer creme. Just put it on a bit thick so it'll stay on even when the child wiggles around.
